In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:1
In Advent it is all too easy to get lost in preparations surrounding the secular celebrations of Christmas. You know the kind of thing: shopping for food, gifts, and those pretty touches of seasonal glamour. All fine. All good. But try not to lose the plot! The central event for us remains the Nativity. Try this quick and simple method to bring Christ back into focus.
2. Sit up straight and close your eyes. Breathe in deeply through the nose. Hold a few seconds. Breathe out through the mouth and as you do so feel the whole of your body relax.
3. Now meditate for a few moments on the fact that God, the Creator of everything, loved us so much that, for our sake, He became a tiny helpless babe.
4. Now say this prayer – or one of your own – ‘Dear Lord, You came to earth to show me the way to heaven. I am not worthy but I thank You with everything that is within me for this greatest of all gifts.’
5. When you are ready breathe in and out deeply as before. Then open your eyes and have a big stretch.
Wishing you a happy and holy Christmas.
God bless
